30Jan, The Salvation Army, Prison Support Services was the fifth external CSR training I organised. It has given lots of FIRST TIMES...

1. 30 Jan was the Thaipusam, a Indian festival which they will visit the temple. Yet I still have a volunteer who wanted to do good for less fortunate from other religion.

2. It was the first one which I need to arrange for goodie bag. Beginning with the publicity of donation drive, collection of donation, preparing the list of items to purchase, liaising with sponsoring parties, purchase the items, manage delivery to packing, I was in it. Despite some unhappiness, I'm glad that everything went on quite smoothly in the end.

It was not easy to ensure every single cents was spent on the items - Floor detergent, cleaning wares, EE bulb, thimble, cookies, chocolate, drinks and mandarin oranges. And I am so grateful when one volunteer was so supportive when I called out for help. He went earlier that day to the office to help me to send the items that were delivered to office day before. Mmm, as I am writing, I realised that it may not be for me, but for the people that will receive the things eventually. He knew that he is not helping me alone, but more importantly to him, he is actually helping the people.

We were given a room to pack the goodie bag. I was more than happy when I see the team of volunteers took their own initiatives, contribute their ideas and sweat it out to pack 126 goodie bags. What touch me is 2 girls who without asking, organised the empty cartons and boxes nicely for disposal. So GRATEFUL when I don't always have to be the last one who clear the rubbih in mess.

3. It was the more "informal" like training that we had. How? What is the difference with the past events?

Few tips, having NO speech! Knowing your audience and their background will help a lot. Having more than half of the audience of age 3-15, my 2 speakers did not have speech but only simple introduction to get all ready for the training. More importantly, they did not stand behind the podium. They just stand near the first row.

Quiz for kids - With the help from the organiser from TSA, we have modified and prepare yurselves. Quiz was included and prizes was given out. The choice of narrator was another thing that make it successful - Her voice is like kindergarten teacher and so cheerful. It was so right that we could not afford her absence, which is why my boss had called her despite that she emailed me to inform that she was on MC. She was also committed to her promise. :) So grateful to her.

Final rehearsal

4. We were all organisers of the event. The distinct difference of me and Kat was that she really thinks from the perspective of the people. To show the appreciation to my volunteers, the families have made themselves a small fan with our names on it. And we all received it from the hand of the major. BEST group photo I ever had!

5. I decided to tell what is in my heart. Before I left, I told Kat that I have sth very important that I need her help - I wanted to take a photo with her! And I told her that's because I like her so much. She is the first lady whom I work well with without any pressure. And she is so cheerful whenever I saw her and talk to her. She is my idol.

6. That day, I had housewarming at Kulai. I had to rush back to Boon Lay to take dear's cousin car back. All were waiting for me and started calling me since 4.30pm. Event supposed to end at 4pm but i left ard 4.45pm. Waited 30 mins for a cab at Changi industrial area, I told myself,"Don't worry. You have just done sth good and sth good will happen." One volunteer's car appeared! huhu.. He gave me a lift to Thomson Road to get a cab. I managed to reach Boon Lay at 6pm with only $17...So Grateful...

7. It was the first event which I left without packing the props. I have to learn to let go and trust my team.

8. The publicity to call for volunteers for TSA event was different. We used to call for CSR volunteers and tell them what they will be doing. This round, by having an activity, we call for target group. Everything arises from "Think from their perspective!"

What I have gained

1. Ordering of the items - check clearly delivery time frame

2. Leverage - call for help. I have purchased some items from NTUC and some from Giant (because some donations are in vouchers). Giant will be late if they deliver to the location on 30 Jan. So I had to ask them to deliver to office day before. I was thinking of doing all myself by just calling a cab on Sat morning. NO! I changed. I called for help and a volunteer agreed to help me to send the things there!

3. Count the items - Flr detergent was short in qty. Do not feel embarrassed to count all items when it was delivered. It is not "AUNTIE" or "KIASU", but your responsibility to make what was ordered was delivered.

4. Be assertive and decisive - NTUC driver suggested to reimburse in cash and we buy the detergent ourselves. He said he will be late and he got other delivery. I can easily ask for help from volunteers. But that's not the way. I told the driver,"Whether you or my colleague go, the time taken is the same. But I do understand that you have other deliveries to rush before 1pm. So why not you go and buy and we are fine as long as you can bring it back before 2pm. " YES, a deal made!

5. Let the team manage the goodie bag. See who is more trustworthy and entrust him/her more important task. 2 RO girls was so helpful that they even tidied the cartons and boxes

6. Communications among team can be improved - so everyone know the program and their roles.

7. No Stage Manager. The "fridge" stand was not done properly and it collapsed during the skit. No one react fast enough to fix it.

8. Simplify the role of facilitator. Maybe assign a team leader next time.

9. When program overrun, don't just let it overrun. Ask the organiser how much time they can afford. Respect their program and time.

10. Tell yourself then everyone, "Must enjoy yourselves too!"

This is my first family trip...in full..means everyone has a "partner" :)
We rented a bungalow..not so ex RM 800 for 8 person including the ticket to all these places & shows..only meals is not included cause we wanted to try malacca niceeee food...i miss them every time...

we are going round in the wild life zoo in a cage car...are we being caged or animal..mmm..anyway, the road is very bumpy and really exciting !!

Cowboy town ! strongly recommended by CS leong.. no need to scroll below cause i was mesmerized by the show..Amazing with their acting skill, sound effect..and stunt!

Multianimal show..cleanest but less excited..

No name for the food? i dunno what is these too..The left (pic above) taste like "lei cha"..and the middle one amaze me. Slices of pork with vege and the prawn crackers...dip in sweet and sour sauce..huhUUUUU...Note that there's different sauces to go with for all dishes..Vietnamese really like greens and sauce..

3rd day morning..having local breakfast..On the left looks like toufu gave me a lovely surprise..i think it is pork..inside the leaves is marinated raw pork..hehe..i only knew it after having it...

We are very lucky despite the drizzle in the afternoon..we found a carpark which charge per entry fee @ ChinaPoint @$3..so cheap!!
And upon reaching Chinatown Center, we were ushered by...Yes..Pornsak, Huan wen yong and xiang yun..the famous Sg artist :)

We have swensens before starting the scout a t chinatown..Food was not bad.the Curry chicken baked rice is spicy, but portion was too much for me.

Had the first battle in my career life today...been thinking of whether to put it here...as i do not wish to affect anyone who read this..so this is only for myself.

Carmen, one day, when u are in the same shoe as the person, be "Professional", and never left your name tainted when you leave..as that is YOUR name, not anyone's or any company's name...It may takes years to build your reputation, but what it takes to bring it to ground is only a word/comment of one person.

I do not want to put it behind me, as this will always remind me that I am capable of speak up, regardless of whom i am talking to..

今天的心情想道琼商股市一样, 非常低落...

看一看我的标题, 请不要误会我赚很多钱, 对一个必须离开家乡, 家人和自己熟悉的一切的人, 我开始怀疑这是不是我想要的...

我需要发泄...想一想..我在气什么, 气别人不顾我的尊严? 气别人咄咄逼人? 气别人为什么人前人后变了个人?
该气的, 是自己还看不开;
应气的, 是自己傲气过人;
但,
最气的, 还是给了别人踩我的机会.

我明白Bill Gates 说的：＂在你成功或享有地位前，你没有任何的资格谈你的尊严．＂但我还是恨，为何人连最基本的忠于自己，都不能做到？难道把别人踩在脚下，你才能呼吸到新鲜的空气？难道板着一张脸对我，你很高兴？如果你回答是，那多悲哀．．．

有时气的想把这股怨气转移到别人身上，很庆幸我并没有这么做，我仍忠于我的原则，我没有人云亦云，你对我好，我对你更好，你对我不好，也别想我会对你仁慈．．．看见我这么写，我可以想象，有几个人会以激励的方式安慰我，其中之一乃妈妈也，但是很抱歉，现在的我做不到，也不想做到，我想做我自己．．．不想以伪善来助自己平步青云，如果连这一点点的尊严都不能留给自己，我会比现在更痛啊，盖兹．．

我以我的方式走，就算不能到最高点，我也会很快乐．．．

认识我的朋友们，看到这一篇没头没尾的稿，请不要为我的委屈难过，因为第二天，我将把它忘掉．．．为了一个在我生命中不具任何意义的人伤心，一个晚上就够了，BUOYANT!!!

coming October, a close friend Shu fen Cherry is going to leave us for China Beijing to embark on her career journey of a brand new environment...Ihave nothing but a simple farewell gathering to present for this close friend...

First, big thanks for co-organizer Khai Nee, Fen ni and Siew Yen...tks to shu fen for lending her house, also to all who make it there...also my mum and a fai's mum for helping with the food..wonder the Mums will see the blog, still u can convey this to them, those who saw this :)

I have known shu fen since primary six in co-curricular activity. But we really got to know each other in deep after joining Ninjutsu. All this while, she has been a tough, perseverant and confident girl...

Not much feeling of sadness or worriness as I believe she's more than capable of taking good care of herself. Also, this is a great chance for her to make a mark for herself in a foreign land..Pretty sure she will make good name of Malaysia, even Kulai..

Still, I am gonna miss her for sure, as most of us is going to. As time goes and as we, the gang dispersed for own future, I am always grateful that all of us are healthy. Deep down, I am confident that all of us would not be able forget the time we spent together ..Hardship, tears, laughter, front roll, back fall....Though we do not see each other often, I wish the best to my buddy...

Way to GO! Cherry, stay cheerful always!!

2007 年七月十五日..凌晨五点钟,我们一群人,在我和俊强的兴起下,"远"赴居銮南峇山.虽是我们二人的提议,俊毅,俊强和斌上才是真正的策划者.有经验丰富的俊毅带路,又有斌上这个土生土长居銮人当向导,此次行程我相信大家都玩的很开心.

在山脚的停车场与导游(斌上)碰面后,大家迫不及待往山顶出发.肌肉松懈了一年,我相信对我来说此次登山并非易事,但万万没有想到身体上的疲惫远远不及精神上带给我的折磨.

抵达约四分之一的高度,呼吸开始急促. 尽管大口呼吸, 肺却无法完全伸展. 大腿的酸痛令我开始怀疑自己能否看见南峇山顶怡人的风景. 大队12 人, 八人已马不停蹄,直奔上山. "至少也得抵达山腰,才能休息呀..", 感谢斌上, 终于看见山腰的人群, 与大队见了一面. 虽然大家已经补充了体力, 准备下半段路程, 但我仍然感觉不适,只得在山腰多休息片刻, 顺便等待远明和美仪赶上来.

四人会合. 不适感传到了腹部, 但山腰没有厕所, 硬是忍了下来, 接着轮到头痛...此时的我意识倒, 我真的须要定期运动..斌上提议, 若大家都同意, 我们四人大可折返山下. 心离挣扎的厉害, 金山都上了, 难道要败给"它", 好不甘心啊! 头痛消失, 精神一振, 未免生枝, 催促大家赶快启程, 士气一振, 继续上路..

接下来的路程更加困难. 远离山腰不远处蛮斜的, 没有先前的梯级路, 都是石头, 必须开始"爬山" 了. 我们本来就用四肢行走, 感觉非常好. 也许是因为能够运用四肢的力量, 也许是因为更加接近土地. 相较整段路程, 最难忘的也是这一段"爬"程. 那我应该会喜欢攀岩吧?

我和斌上又再次夹在大队和远明和美仪之间. 途中遇见很多登山者. 有一家大小, 有独自前来锻炼, 有沉浸在MP3中的, 也有默默享受风, 林, 虫的. 有时被他超前了,有时走在他前头. "不怕慢, 只怕站", 想起这一句小学时老师送的话..是啊, 我原本就不怕落在他人后头, 怕的应该是自己原地踏步, 停滞不前.

经过别的登山者身边, 就会说些鼓励的话. "快到了", "加油", "YEAH", 对别人说, 也对自己说, 也期待别人对我说. 才惊觉我多么需要他人的鼓励..中间遇见一位UNCLE, 年纪不小, 登山过40 次, 佩服佩服. UNCLE 法宝-泰国油, 忘了主要功用, 但好心的UNCLE 知道我刚才肚子不舒服, 马上OFFER神油, 我擦在手上, 嗅了嗅, 又是精神振奋, 好! 继续! 因为UNCLE 说到了山顶要唱歌给我们听! 哈哈...

终于....终于...路越来越平, 风越来越大, 天空越来越亮, 到了!!!!! 喘啊!!! 休息了好久, 才有力气和心情拍照留念. 我拍的不多, 因为队里有两位非常专业的摄影师 - 锦丰和展宏.. :)

下山的路好走的很, 只是膝盖感觉比较吃力..路程当然也比较远...

称职的导游马上带我们去品尝居銮火车头烤面包. 久的食物, 新的装潢, 小贵, 但面包还蛮不错 :)
紧接着就到斌上家洗澡, 小妹妹诗敏有卡拉OK, 乐不思署..

另一个印象深刻的地方是最后一站不住- 龙珠果园. 面积不小, 还有舒适的餐馆, 售卖有机餐. 晃了晃, 又登上遼望台, 大家拍了全体照, 才挥手说BYE BYE.

非常开心的旅程, 认识了新的朋友, 南峇山挑战成功, 健康的龙珠果园有机餐...现在只有等待腿上的酸痛退去...

忙碌的周末 - It's my graduation

6.7.2007...my second graduation...the feeling is weird..not so thrilled..perhaps it is because it is 2 months apart from the end of the course.

With my family and my bf, we went to singapore. I had flared up over small thing, which blinded me from the fact that i have got the venue of the graduation wrongly!!! oh my god...

I was at the right place 15 mins before the admission close..got my shirt and robe changed 5 mins before it...things started to get exciting..haha

thank god the ceremony is fast..no speech..and everything went smoothly with the barcode system scanning our invitation card at the entrance and collection of cert at the exit..

still we got home at around 12..that was a tiring day for all of us..

Friday on saturday night

星期六和男朋友去了TGI Friday Restaurant...我们两个的第一次...

点了一份套餐另加一份主餐...a bit lost cos there are so many choices in the menu..but the waitress is helpful..yet not meddlesome..cheerful looking and lightens our heart

I took the Jack Daniel's Chicken with Shrimp..waoooo..still can't forget the Jack Daniel's dip taste...so sweet and it goes so well with the grilled chicken...yummy...but the drinks is so-s0..

we enjoy the dinner and the ambience for 2 hours...

sunday early in the morning, bf and I set off to Muar to his colleague's home for a sumptuous meal of durian!!! waooo...it is all worth it..every time in durian season, the mood is very contradicting..即期待又怕受伤害...but this time..only waited to enjoy the different top taste...i love the yellowish one..that was really really delicious...
what a lovely durian season this year..

After 27 days, finally the TM and us could relieved as no call needed be made everyday to the customer service department...asking about the broadband connection that TM proudly claimed that the service could be activated within one week...Inconsistency of services...thought falling on your ear, it may be just another complain of the inefficiency of the public services in Malaysia, but to us..it is really a pain in the neck..further reducing our reliance on the govtXXXX..
